Catherine A. McNeill was the daughter of John McNeill (called "John the Hatter", son of Scots immigrants Godfrey McNeill & Katherine "Kitty" McDougald who settled in Bladen --now Robeson -- Co., NC about 1760) and this wife Catherine Taylor of Bladen Co., NC. When her father John McNeill died about 1815 in Lumberton, NC, she moved with her mother Catherine Taylor McNeill and siblings -- Angus T., John T., James, William (died young) and Sarah Jane McNeill Buie and her husband Neill Buie -- to New Orleans.
