THOMAS JEFFRIES

Thomas Jeffries, 76, well known Chariton citizen, died Saturday morning, June 10, 1939, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Lowery, in Ottumwa.

Mr. Jeffries went from his home here to Ottumwa Friday noon, and had planned to leave there Friday night on the Burlington Zephyr for Denver, Colo., where he expected to spend the summer, but he became ill with a heart attack upon reaching the Lowery home in Ottumwa, and death resulted.

The body was returned to Chariton and funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul H. Hicks, of the Methodist church, were held at the Beardsley funeral home Monday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.

Surviving him are five children, Mrs. Bert Powell and Mrs. Fred Norberg, both of Chariton; Dick Jeffries, of Williamson; E. A. Jeffries, of Denver, Colo.; and Mrs. Wm. Lowery, of Ottumwa; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
