Josiah was the son of Simeon Munger and Sarah Scranton Munger. He and Anne Lee were married on March 20, 1780 at Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut. They were the parents of George, Sarah and Anne. Anne died in 1799 and in 1800 Josiah married Hannah Coe. Hannah and Josiah were the parents of Mabel and Josiah.
Josiah was a Captain in the Revolutionary War being part of the "Lexington Alert" at the very beginning of the war and was a member of Captain Bidwell's Company.
Josiah was also a soldier during the War of 1812.
