Wyllys was the son of Simeon Munger and Sarah Scranton Munger. He and Esther Hand were married on January 19, 1785 at East Guilford. They were blessed with four sons; William Hand, Simeon, Wyllys, Jr., and Walter Price. The Mungers spent their entire married life in New Haven County, Connecticut.
