Charles was the only son of Clement and Mary (Brooke) Grubb. He graduated from Princeton and joined the family iron firm, later becoming a partner with his father. A bachelor, he was a vestryman at St. James Church in Lancaster, a Mason and a Republican. He was the brother of Daisy Grubb, the last family member to reside at the Mount Hope estate.
