Alice D. Brown, 91, St. Joseph, formerly of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Friday, November 5, 2010, at Carriage Square Health Care Center. Born April 6, 1919, at Wathena, Kan., Alice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. She married Thomas Brown in 1943. They co-owned and operated Gladstone Insurance in Kansas City. Following their retirement, they moved back to St. Joseph in 1992. Thomas passed away in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dora Ruhnke; sister, Carmelita Sinclair; and brother, Paul Ruhnke Jr. Survivors include sisters, Marguerite Swartz, St. Joseph, and Carol (Richard) McKittrick, Topeka, Kan.; sister-in-law, Elsie Ruhnke, Wathena; brother-in-law, Dr. William Showers, Tucson, Ariz.; four nieces, four nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. Service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pastor Terry Weinhold and Pastor David Moore co-officiating. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin after noon Sunday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Brown will be removed from our chapel Monday morning to arrive at the Church one hour prior to the service.Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hands of Hope Hospice.
