Sam McGary Oxford was born on 9 September 1920 in Beaumont, Texas, to William Philmer Oxford Sr and Annie Statire McGary. He was named after his paternal grandfather. Sam served as a Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was killed in a car accident that left his younger brother, Courtenay Robert Oxford, brain damaged on 16 November 1952 in Woodville, Texas. Sam McGary Oxford died a bachelor, aged 32, and was buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Texas.
