Body Of Harry Hill Is Recovered From Columbia River

The body of Harry Smith Hill, 8, formerly of the Monica community mayor of Rock Island, Wash., was found at noon Saturday, August 23, Mr. Hill fell into the Columbia River while at work on the Rock Island dame August 12. He had been an employee of the light company there for the past 21 years as an electrical machinist.

He was born December 29, 1893 in Monica, the son of Milton and May Moffitt Hill. He graduated of Brown's Business college in Peoria. May 10, 1916 he was united in marriage to Miss Florence M. Coe in Peoria. He had been mayor of Rock Island for the past ten years and was active the civic affairs as well as a faithful member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. May Hill of Princeville; his widow; five children; two brothers, Everett of Monica and Ralph of Jacksonville; three sisters, Mrs. Charles Sears and Mrs. Jack Thatcher of Princeville and Mrs. Clarence Sniff of Mineral Point, Wisc., and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in Rock Island Wednesday, August 27 and he was laid to rest in the cemetery there.

Mrs. May Hill and daughter, Mrs. Esther Thatcher and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ralph Hill of Jacksonville, spent a couple of weeks in Washington at the time of the tragedy.
