FORMER LOCAL MAN IS VICTIM OF CANCER

Aaron Charles Brassfield, a former resident of north Tama, died Monday this home near Alden, Iowa, after an illness of cancer. He h ad been in failing health a year or more. The funeral service was held at the home Wednesday, and the body was brought Traer by rail that night. A short service was held at the Boettcher mortuary here at 2:30 o ’clock yesterday afternoon in charge of Dr. W. L. Alexander, of the Methodist church, and burial was in Buckingham cemetery, members of Gem lodge, I. O. O. F. had charge of the service at the grave.

Mr. Brassfield was born May 7, 1857 at Goldfield, Iowa. His boyhood was spent Jasper and Marion counties, and in 1880 he came to north Tama. He was married December 27, 1882 to Mary A. Estle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Estle, early settlers of this community, of this union one daughter was born Mrs. James G. Yohn, of Traer. The Brass fields farmed in Crystal township several years after their marriage. For ten years they farmed near Beaman, then in Hardin county. Of late years they have made their home on a forty-acre place over the Hardin county line in Franklin county.

Mr. Brassfield became a member of Gem lodge, I. O. O. F., forty-seven years ago while living in this community and has continued his membership here ever since. He is survived by his wife and daughter and seven grandchildren as well as by one brother, J. R. Brassfield, and two sisters, Anna Brassfield a Mrs. Nancy Lewis. The brother and sisters all live at Monroe, Iowa. A father, Jesse, who died several years ago, lived around Traer several years.
