Capt. John W. Totten Dead.

Capt. John W. Totten died at his home, 410 East Maple street, Jeffersonville, Sunday night. He had been in failing health a long time. He was 84 years old and a native of Floyd county, Indiana, and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Totten. Soon after the Civil War was declared he enlisted in the 23rd Indiana Infantry, serving three years. At the battle of Kenesaw Mountain he lost his
right arm. Returning home after the war he engaged in business at Washington, Ind., and later located at Spencer, Ind. In 1871 he came to Jeffersonville to take a place as watchman at the Government Depot and went on the retired list a year ago. Capt. Totten is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emma Hopwood; and Mrs. Lillie Armstrong, and two sons, Orlando Totten and Clyde Totten. The funeral will be conducted from the family residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock by the Rev. Arthur Hale Keeney and burial will be at Walnut Ridge cemetery.
