‎ ‎ ‎ Memorial services for Syrena Boal, 92, of Boise, who died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Hillcrest Care Center, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, at Cloverdale Church of God, 3755 S. Cloverdale, Boise, with Rev. Tom Dougherty, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment will precede the services at 10 a.m. Monday at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
‎ ‎ ‎ Syrena was born Sept. 6, 1907, in Moorewood, OK, the daughter of Henry Clay Harney and Bertha Ann (Piper) Harney. Prior to her marriage to Floyd Thompson Boal on May 1, 1926, at Cheyenne, OK, she taught school for one year. The couple farmed in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Colorado, before moving to Idaho in 1945. They continued to farm in the Happy Valley Community, and at the East Powerline Road area of Nampa.
‎ ‎ ‎ During the difficult economic years, in addition to helping with the farm work, Syrena cooked for ranch hands, baked and sold pies, was a champion peach packer, worked in a box factory to support the war effort and worked as cook at the Harmony Cafe in Nampa.
‎ ‎ ‎ Syrena was a member of the First Church of God in Nampa. She loved music and served as pianist and organist. She also fulfilled many other positions at both the local and state level of her church. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, Missionary President, taught Sunday School, organized Vacation Bible Schools and helped in Youth Camps.
‎ ‎ ‎ She was a dedicated and loving mother. In addition to raising her own children, she was a foster mother for several years.
‎ ‎ ‎ Syrena is survived by three daughters, Novella Waltz, Boise, Doris (Mrs. Don) Tusch, San Diego, California, and Lawana (Mrs. Boyd E.) Patrick, Winchester, California; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
‎ ‎ ‎ She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, her parents, three sisters, one brother, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
