Hazel Evelyn Max, 92, Fergus Falls, died Jan. 16,2006, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.
She was born June 6, 1913, in Akron Township, Rothsay, the daughter of Henry and Caroline (Trenne) Schumann. She lived there with her parents and brother, attending eight years of country school.
June 6, 1934. she married Henry Max in Fergus Falls. He was a neighbor boy whom she had grown up with. The couple started the Max Grocery Store on Washington Avenue. She also worked for O'Mears Department Store for 16 years and then for Mauk Jewelry Store until she retired. She moved to the Pioneer Retirement Home in 1997.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, where she served on the Ladies Aid and also was a member of the Eagles Club. She enjoyed crocheting and gardening and loved her African Violets,
She is survived by her nieces, Mary Lou Sanders, Wahpeton, and Marlene Terfehr, Breckenridge; and nephew Lyle Barringer of Lake Lida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, who died in 1978; brother Lenville; and nieces, Jeanne Schumann and Donna Sichmeller.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel.
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
