Esther Abrell, 82, of Pana, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in Heritage Manor—Pana. She was born July 11, 1926 in Benton, IL, the daughter of Frank I. & Emily Wells McQuire. A graduate of Taylorville High School, Esther lived in the Pana and Taylorville areas for most of her life. She retired from Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company after 42 years. She started as an operator, then became a chief operator, and later worked in the Pana office. Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pana; Arcana Chapter #493 Order of the Eastern Star, Pana; VFW Auxiliary; Pana Community Hospital Auxiliary; & Red Hat Society. Esther helped in making food baskets, and served as an election judge for many years. She also loved to travel, which she did extensively.
Esther received the Jaycee's Distinguished Citizens Award in 1992.
She married Arlington R. Abrell on September 14, 1946 in Pana.
Esther is survived by her daughter: Arla Anne Abrell, Bloomington, IL; special extended family: Lavonne Long , Ryan Long, Amanda Long, Bredan Taylor, Xander Long, Peyton Taylor, Isaiah Long, & Christopher Long; & niece: Vicki Lynn Abrell Mock, Orlando, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on August 5, 2005; sister, Mary in infancy; & brother, Frank I. "Frankie" McQuire.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 2, 2008 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. David Hultberg officiating. Burial will be in Rosemond Grove Cemetery, Rosamond. Friends may call Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home with Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. Family requests memorials to Shelby Humane Society, 1309 W. South 7th St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
