Lillian Juanita Barker, 86, of Athens, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010.

A native of Polk County, and a resident of Athens for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Charles Arthur and Alice Virginia Hilliard Waters, and was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Luther Howard Barker, on June 24, 1988; and four sisters. A member of Antioch Baptist Church, she was active at the McMinn County Senior Center prior to her declining health. She retired from Athens Junior High School as assistant manager of Food Services.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Jeff Combs of Riceville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry H. Barker of Athens, and his friend, Maxine Allen, and J. Lynn and Mitzi Barker of Ooltewah; five grandchildren, Wesley Ann Barker Smith, Kevin Charles Combs, Cynthia Koren Barker Sapp, Jeffery Ryan Combs and Jennifer Suzanne Barker Merriman; six great-grandchildren, Austin Smith, Cameron Smith, Allie Smith, Dylan Sapp, Eli Sapp and Stella Merriman; one sister, Claude Waters of Benton; and a special niece, Liz Swanson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to NHC Nursing Station No. 1.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Thomas officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McMinn Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Combs, Ryan Combs, Chris Smith, Jack Sapp, Jay Merriman and Glen Watson. Jamie Swanson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 218 Canal St., Athens, TN 37303; or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Faye C. Forgety, 120 County Road 447, Athens, TN 37303.
