"William Lindemann came in March, 1870, and bought eighty acres on section 11 [Noble township]. He removed to it the following May, and lived there till 1873, when he sold the place and bought two hundred and five acres of wild land on section 5, where he now resides. He was born in Hesse-Cassel, in 1846, and his parents came to America in 1853. He lived in Pennsylvania from that time until coming here. He was married in 1867, to Catherine Gerlach. They have seven children."

Note: William's father died when William and his 3 brothers were young. Hismother married a man last named Abhue and had 3 more children by him. William apprecnticed as a black smith while living in Hazelton, PA. He took his family by train to Iowa and built a sod house near Atlantic, IA and became a farmer in May, 1870. William often told the story of the family being directly related to Martin Luther as Luther's mother was a Lindeman from the same town.

'Obituary of Wm. Lindeman'
William Lindeman was born at Isenach in Germany January llth. 1846, came to the United States in 1863 and, with his parents, settled at Hazleton, Penn., where he grew to manhood and where, on Sept. 22nd, 1867, he was married to Katherine Gerlach. To this union were born ten children: George G. Lindeman and Joseph Lindeman of Bear Grove township; William H. Lindeman, Mrs. Lucy Janss, Mrs. Alice Neff and Mrs. Matilda Fulks of Atlantic; Frank Lindeman of Adel, la.; Justus Lindeman of Ellensburg, Wash.; Mrs. Katherine Heckman of Anita and Mrs. Mary Muller of Easton, Maryland. All the children survive him. Mrs. Lindeman died in Atlantic Feb. 19, 1909. In 1869 Mr. Lindeman moved to Cass county and settled on a farm in Noble township where he resided until 1904, when he retired from the farm and became a resident of Atlantic. The funeral will be held at the residence of L. L. Neff, 406 Hazel street at two o'clock Friday afternoon. Interment in the Atlantic cemetery.
