Frederick came from Pennsylvania to Stephenson Co. in 1850. He was married first to Hannah Ritzman who was the mother of his first three children. After her death in 1852 he married Caroline Emmert the following year. Upon coming to Stephenson Co. he settled first at Buena Vista where he served as justice of the peace for many years. At one time or another he held most of the local offices. After the death of his second wife he married Diana, the widow of John Bogar.
