"Charles B. Martin, 74, 905 W. Geyser St. died at Livingston Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon, March 1, 1987, after a long illness.

Charles was born Sept. 13, 1912 at Woodburn Iowa, the son of Charles and May Martin. They moved to Laurel where he attended school. He later attended the military academy and high school at Stauton, VA., and the business college at Butte, MT. He began his career in the food business as owner of the Nickel Hamburger Shop in Livingston on South Main Street in 1932. He also had operated the Subway and Grill Cafe here at one time.

He married Bendena Adams on Oct. 23, 1951 at Great Falls MT. They were the original owners of Martin's Restaurant which they operated until moving to Oceanside CA. where they owned and operated a restaurant until moving to Helena in 1972. They operated a catering business there at Mr. Lucky's until purchasing the Black Sands Supper Club, which they operated until retiring in 1978. They returned to Livingston in 1985.

He was past president of the Highway 89's. The group worked to establish a freeway from Great Falls to Yellowstone Park. He was a past member of the Livingston Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Montana Restaurant Association and a 43 year member of the Elks Lodge.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 PM at the Franzen-Davis-Bebee Chapel. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery at Livingston.

Survivors include his wife, Bendena of Livingston; four sons, Robert of Asheville, NC, Charles of Dallas, TX., Richard of Valley City, ND and James of Livingston; eight grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Cancer Society."
