Laid to Rest In
Lanett Cemetery

Elder L> Powell, 79, resident of Lanett since 1916, was paid final tribute Friday, December 3, at the Primitive Baptist church, following his death on Wednesday, Dec 1, at the Valley Hospital. Services were conducted by Elder W. Y. Jordan and the Rev. H> E. Weston of Fairfax. Interment was in Lanett Cemetery. Johnson and Blakely in charge.

Elder Powell was a faithful employee of the Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works from 1916 until his retirement a few years ago. He resided at Plant City. He had served as an Elder of the Primitive Baptist church about 30 years and was loved and respected by all with whom he came in contact.

He had been in failing health about four months and became seriously ill about two days before his death as a result of a heart attack. Elder Powell was a native of Lee County.

Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Lethia Parker Powell of Plant City, a daughter, Mrs. J. T. Winningham of Fairfax, and two sons, Tom of Langdale and George of Fairfax, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
