Brown County Coroner Jack Bond has found that 17-year-old William Franklin (Billy) Alvey of Mt. Nebo Rd. died about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, from internal hemorrhages resulting from an accidental 20-gauge deer slug shotgun wound in the left chest. He had been hunting along. The body of young Alvey was discovered two miles from his home about 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, by the victim's brother, Arthur. Billy had gone deer hunting Sunday and had not been seen since 4 p.m. on that day. Bond said that three pathologists, doctors Ellis, Pizzo and Pless, did not conduct an autopsy at Bloomington Hospital because they believedo an autopsy would not determine if the death was accidental. The coroner based his decision of accidental death on investigation of the shooting by Indiana State Police and Brown County officials, who turned up no evidence to the contrary. Funeral services for Alvey were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Kritzer at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Bond Funeral Home, Nashville.
Alvey was born Oct. 11, 1959, in Columbus. He was the son of Robert and Stella (Hatton) Alvey. In addition to the parents, he is survived by six brothers: Ora T., Harris J., Sam K., Ronald G. and Arthur G., all of Route 6, Columbus, and Paul N. of Indianapolis. Also surviving are five sisters: Corene Greathouse and Nora E. Alvey, both of Route 6, Columbus; Nellie McQueary, Route 4, Columbus; Anna Purdue, Route 3, Elizabethtown; and Phyllis Garard, Route 8, Columbus. Burial was at Christiansburg Cemetery.
