Harris James "Jim" Alvey, 62, of Mount Nebo Road, died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his home.

He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1994 after 31 years of service and worked for Allied Securities for five years. He was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Brown County. He was an Army veteran.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bond–Mitchell Funeral Home. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Christianburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born Dec. 7, 1940, in Brown County, Mr. Alvey was the son of William Robert and Stella Gertrude Hatton Alvey. He married Karen Greathouse on Feb. 13, 1966.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Patrick M. and Timothy L. Alvey, both of Columbus; brothers, Ora, Sam and Ron Alvey, both of Brown County, and Paul Alvey of Columbus; and sisters, Corene Greathouse of Brown County and Nellie McQueary, Annie Purdue, Phyllis Garard and Nora Sebastain, all of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffery Alvey; and brothers, Arthur and William Franklin Alvey.

Harris James "Jim" Alvey, Brown County resident, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his residence on Mt. Nebo Road. He was 62.

Mr. Alvey was born December 7, 1940, in Brown County and was the son of William Robert Alvey and Stella Gertrude Hatton Alvey.

He married Karen (Greathouse) Alvey on the 13th of February, 1966. She survives.

He inlisted in the Army and served from 1963 to 1964.

Mr. Alvey worked for Cummins Engine for 31 years and retired in 1994. He worked for Allied Securities for five years.

He was a member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist in Brown County and was a lay speaker for the United Methodist organization.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Patrick Michael Alvey and Timothy Lane Alvey of Colorado; four brothers, Ora, Sam, Ron Alvey of Brown County and Paul Alvey of Columbus; five sisters, Corene Greathouse of Brown County, Nellie McQueary, Annie Purdue, Phyllis Garard and Nora Sebastain, all of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by: a son, Jeffery Alvey; two brothers, Arthur Alvey and William Franklin Alvey.

Services was Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at the Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home. Burial was in Christiansburg.
