Former naval aviator; was the first to arrive to rescue survivors of the crew of the U.S.S. Indianapolis; This ship was torpedoed and sunk in shark-infested waters after stopping at Tinian Island to deliver critical parts for the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Lt. Marks courageously landed his PBY aircraft in rough waters and initiated action that immediately rescued 56 men and ultimately resulted in the survival of more than 300 members of the crew. Later was a practicing attorney in Frankfort, IN for many years.
