Funeral services for Mr. Russell Skidmore , 73, of Grapeland were held Sunday, January 25 , in the Sunset Christian Church with Rev. Jesse Pugh and Dr. Clyde Skidmore officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery (Percilla) under the direction of Bailey and Foster.

Pallbearers were Calvin Skidmore, Jr., Ronald Skidmore, Dr. Eric Skidmore, Milford Ruby, Donald Cutler, Larry Miles, James Clark and Ricky Lock.

Mr. Skidmore was born in Houston County on April 12, 1913, and was the son of Ed and Bennie Williams Skidmore. He died at 4:15 a.m. Friday morning, January 23, 1987, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Skidmore was a member of the Sunset Christian Church and a lifelong resident of Houston County where he engaged in farming and ranching. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Lock Skidmore on July 3, 1986 and a brother, Kenneth Leo Skidmore.
Survivors include three sons: Dr. Gerald Skidmore and wife Joyce of Alvin, Stanley Skidmore and wife Linda of Grapeland, and Kenneth Skidmore and wife Janis of Hawkins; one sister: Edwina Banks of Grapeland; five brothers: Calvin Skidmore, Sr. of Grapeland, Harold (Boots) Skidmore of Grapeland, Dr. Clyde Skidmore and wife Marjorie of Los Angeles, California, Ray Skidmore and wife Ruth of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and John Skidmore and wife Estalene of Houston; seven grandchildren: David Skidmore and wife Sheila of Alvin, Marsha Skidmore of Angleton, Sherri Kendrick and husband Dewayne of Grapeland, Stephen Skidmore and wife Robbin of Austin, Judith Skidmore of Grapeland, Ken Skidmore of Hawkins and Kori Skidmore of Hawkins.
