Death of an Old Citizen
Died in Painesville, Ohio, January the 26th, 1877, Mrs. Charlotte White, aged 80 years. She was born Jan. 21, 1797, in Chesterfield, Hampshire county, Massachusetts. Her father, Caleb Bates, and his family moved to this county in 1809, there were then but a few families in the county. She was married to the late Samuel T. White, August 14, 1814, and raised ten children, eight of whom are now living. They commenced housekeeping on the place where both have died, when it was an unbroken forest, and their industry made and surrounded them with all the improvements and comforts of later years. The deceased was a most intelligent lady, an extensive reader, superior memory, and always took a deep interest in home and national affairs. She was an exemplary Christian, and her many virtues and acts of kindness to those around her endeared her to all who came within her influence. She was especially and greatly beloved by her immediate friends and neighbors, by whom her memory will long be cherished. The funeral services took place at her late residence Monday morning, attended by a large assemblage of those who had known and loved her in life.
