After the death of their mother at a very young age Elinor and her brothers and sister were raised by their grandparents Charles and Maggie Cook. Elinor attended rural school south of Edgar and graduated from Edgar High School with the class of 1934. Elinor furthered her education by attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Elinor received her teaching certificate and taught school until her marriage to Wayne "Jake" Johnson on November 6, 1941 at Hastings, NE. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters.
Elinor and Jake moved to the family farm and remained there until February of 1963 when they moved into Edgar and built their home. In February of 2010 failing health took Elinor to Rosebrook Care Center in Edgar.
Elinor was member of the Church of the Plains, Edgar; Chapter AA PEO of Edgar. In her spare time Elinor enjoyed doing embroidering baby quilts and tea towel. She enjoyed watching all football but was an avid Husker fan and always looked forward to the fall for Husker football. She also spent many hours reading and doing crossword puzzles when time permitted.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne "Jake" Johnson on July 23, 1990; siblings: Charles Timmons, Marion (Rip) Timmons, Margaret Greenwood and Elizabeth Austin.
Survivors include her daughters Karen Shuck and husband Dennis of Edgar, NE; Sally Burke and husband Gary of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Jeffrey Shuck, James Shuck, Stacy Skrivan, Matthew Burton and Neil Burton; great grandchildren: Joel, Jake and Lexi Shuck; Kevin Skrivan, Hazel, Cody and Isla Burton other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held this Monday 10:30 AM, November 1, 2010 at the Church of the Plains, Edgar, NE. Pastor Stephen Price Gibson will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials to the family. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar is in charge of the arrangements.
