William Lacy Millsap was born on September 8, 1803 in Jefferson County, Tennessee, the son of Moses Taylor Millsap, who was born c. 1766 in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia, and Jane (Lacy/Lacey) Millsap, who was born c. 1762. Moses is believed to be the son of Robert Millsap and Ellen/Ellender (King) Millsap. Moses Taylor Millsap and Jane Lacy/Lacey were married in 1795 in Randolph County, North Carolina
At the time of the 1830 census, Moses Taylor Milsaps is found in Washington County, Indiana. He and Jane are both between the age of 60 and 69. Living on either side of him are two of his sons, Robert and William Lacy Milsaps. In the early or mid 1830's, the Milsaps moved west into Illinois, where they settled in the Schuyler County/McDonough County area. Moses Taylor Millsap is believed by some to have died c. 9 May 1838 in Schuyler County, Illinois and Jane (Lacy/Lacey) Millsap the following year, 1839, in Schuyler County. However, if the family all came at the same time, it must be noted that William Lacy Millsap's 6th child, Margaret, is believed to have been born in Indiana in September of 1838, so perhaps the family made the move to Illinois piecemeal. The mortal remains of Moses and Jane may very well lie in a small family cemetery somewhere in the Rushville area of Schuyler County, Illinois that has been long since lost and forgotten about.

MILSAP [sic]—Robert Milsap [sic] was born March 19th, 1796, and died Jan. 12th, 1886, at the residence of his son some seventeen miles southeast of Edina, aged 89 years, 9 months and 3 days. I know nothing of his history save that he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1814, and had remained a member of the same for more than 71 years. He had partially lost his sight, hearing and the use of his lower limbs so that he had no word of complaint but talked cheerfully of his past experience and future prospects of a home in heaven. He was a man of remarkable information on general topics and especially well versed in the Bible.

This is certainly a remarkable coincidence that 2 persons [ie: Robert Millsap and Mary Wiley] in the same pastoral charge each in their ninetieth year and for so long members of the same church should be called from labor to reward in the same week.
