James "Jim" Broussard, 82, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2010 in Victoria, TX. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday October 29, 2010, in the Garden of Ten Commandments, at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, October 28, 2010 at Elmwood Funeral Home.
James was born on October 1, 1928 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Joseph Broussard and Felonise Meloncon. The United States Air Force brought James to Texas, where he met and later married Ada Skinner in November of 1957. After the passing of Ada, he married his second wife Maudie Botard in November of 1995. His military career took him all over the world, serving in Korea and Vietnam, even as a Marine Merchant during WWII. In 1968, he retired after serving 20 years as a Military Policeman and decided to continue on his path of law enforcement. He served as the Chief of Police in Merkel, a Deputy Sheriff in Abilene, and eventually the Sheriff of Colorado County in Columbus. You could always find James outside doing yard work or playing with his beloved dog "Chico".
James was preceded in death by his wives, two sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include his daughter, Belinda Roensch and husband Terry of Hawley, their children, Sandra Crow and husband Clay, and Dustin Roensch; his step children, R.C. Duncan and wife Letha of Albany and their daughter Shelley Garcia, Carolyn Schultz and husband Duane of Wisconsin, their children: Jackie Mancl, Connie Schultz, Candie Leamons, and Guy Schultz, Sandra Gotham and husband Larry of Michigan, and their son Sky Armentrout, Sue High and husband Billy of Sheridan; numerous great grandchildren.
