Mr. Pope, born in Duplin County, was the son of the late Sam E. Pope and Essie Numous Pope. He was a retired plumber and veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald James Pope.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Cannon of Raleigh, a sister, Catherine Matthews of Magnolia, four grandchildren, Eric Pope and wife Kim of Clinton, Cheryl Payne and husband Chuck of Garner, James Cannon and Ashley Cannon of Raleigh, two great grandchildren, Kendall Pope of Clinton and Madelynn Payne of Garner.
A graveside service was held at 3:30pm, Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Grandview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bill West officiating.
Burial was made in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Clinton, NC.
