Mary Catherine Pope Matthews, 94, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at Kenansville Health and Rehabilitation. Mrs. Matthews was born Sept 28, 1926 in Duplin County, NC to the late Samuel Etheridge and Essie Mae Newman Pope.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by daughters, Jean M. Hughes of Warsaw, Dorothy M. Williams of Kenansville, Deborah M. Lanier of Chinquapin, Sandra M. Brinson of Chinquapin and Connie M. Thornburg of Magnolia; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by husband, Rudolph Matthews and great grandson, Thomas Wright Lanier.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, August 19, 2021 in Devotional Gardens, Warsaw, NC. Please wear mask and practice good social distancing.
