Susannah was the daughter of Jacob Elliott and Betty (Elizabeth) Beeson. Her family evidently moved to Tennessee after her birth, for the "Portrait and Biographical Album of Wapello County" tells us that both William and Susannah were natives of Tennessee and were raised near the city of Knoxville.

William and Susannah were married November 12, 1809, in Warren County, Ohio. According to the Marriage Consents records in Warren County, her father, Jacob, gave his consent for the marriage on November 11. If you would like to read more about Susannah's life, please see the biography for her husband, William Dimmitt.
