He was a retired employee of the former Pennsylvania Railroad with more than 50 years' service, and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Urban.
Surviving are his wife, Gertie E. Herrold; four daughters, Gladys M. Reader of Sunbury, D. June Schlegel of Reading, Doris J. Sosnoski of Shamokin, and Nancy M. Maurer of Shamokin RD; a son, Roy E. of Northumberland RD; three stepdaughters, Helen M. Allman of Lenkerville, Greta E. Defibaugh of Lebanon, and Faye I. Hornberger of Millersburg RD 1; two stepsons, Robert L. Troutman of Millersburg, and Mark L. Troutman of Damascus, Md.; a brother, Fred of Sunbury; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; 18 stepgrandchildren; and 22 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hoover Funeral Homes with the Rev. George Heberling, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Herndon Cemetery.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
