Russell G. Schrecengost, age 89, of Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., PA., died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at his home. He was born on January 23, 1920 in Plumcreek Twp., PA to Joseph and Myrtle (Harkleroad) Schrecengost. Mr. Schrecengost was a member of the St. Thomas United Church of Christ in Gastown and was a lifetime resident of Plumcreek Township, Armstrong Co. He was one of the charter members of the Elderton District Volunteer Fire Company where he served as Past President. Russell was a member of the Masonic Lodge 753 in Indiana, the Valley of Coudersport Consistory, the Syria Shrine, and Caravan #22. He was previously employed with People's Natural Gas as a foreman and retired in 1980 after 32 years of service. Russell enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also took great pleasure camping with Helen and the Masonic family camping club, the National Camping Traveler's. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen (Thomas) Schrecengost, whom he married May 1, 1941; his daughter, Betty Artman and her husband Lou of Kittanning, his son, Jeff Schrecengost and his friend, Cheryl Hankey of Elderton, a daughter-in-law, Linda Schrecengost of Ford City, six grandchildren; Jasa Galo and her husband Dave, Tyce Schrecengost and his wife Tonia, Tate Artman and his wife Heidi, Kelley Artman and her fiancé Mark Hodek, Angie Wood and her husband Eric and Justin Schrecengost; seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Erwood Schrecengost of Rural Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; Earl Schrecengost and an infant son, Wendell Schrecengost, and one brother, Wayne Schrecengost. Family will receive friends from 7-9 on Monday, March 9, 2009 and from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Clark Chapel of Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 South Main Street, Elderton, PA where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7PM on Tuesday followed by a fireman's service held by the Elderton District Volunteer Fire Company at 8PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the St. Thomas United Church of Christ, Gastown, with his pastor, the Rev. Herman Ridley officiating. Interment to follow at the Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Russell's honor to the Visiting Nurses Association-Family Hospice Services of Indiana County, 850 Hospital Road, #3000, Indiana, PA 15701.
