HELENA PICKERLING SHAW

Helena Pickerling Shaw, better known as "Grandma" Shaw, mother of Frank Shaw and grandmother of Mrs. Everett Loyd, passed away Saturday, Jan, 13, 1945, at 7:30 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Ridenour at Oshkosh, following an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Shaw was born July 9, 1859 in Schuyler County, Ill., and departed this life at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 4 days.

She was united in holy matrimony to William Riley shaw, Nov. 18, 1883 in Phillips County, Nebraska, at the age of 24 years. Mr. and Mrs. Shaw lived the first part of their married life in eastern Nebraska. In 1910 they moved to Oshkosh, homesteading on a place 5 1/2 mles northwest of town, where they resided until the passing of Mr. Shaw in 1926. Mrs. Shaw then moved to Oshkosh, where she had since resided.

To this union ten children were born - eight of whom are still living and attended the funeral. Two preceded her in death - one in infancy and Steven Riley Shaw, who was killed in action during World War No., 1, meeting his death in the Argonne Forest, August 17, 1918, Her husband also preceded.
