Nancy Jane Casey was born in June of 1828 in Hardin County, Kentucky, the eldest of seven children to John Stephan and Amanda (Smith) Casey. In 1842, Nancy's parents moved their family to Henry County, Missouri where they settled in the Tebo Township area.

Nancy married Charles P. Wade, also a Kentuckian whose family had settled the Henry County, MO area. Born to Nancy in Henry County, MO were Franklin Columbus, Sarah Estella, William Pleasant and Mary Melissa. In the 1860 census, Nancy is found as head of house, farming next to her parents. She is listed as having real estate valued at what appears to be $1500 and personal estate of $271.

Between 1861 and 1864 Nancy moved her children to Griggsville, Pike County, Illinois. Here, Nancy met and later married widower Charles Turman Stipe from Virginia who had three young daughters, Susan Margaret, Cordelia I., and Clara L. and infant son, Charles. Nancy and Charles Stipe resettled their combined families on a farm in the newly drained, rich and fertile peat soil of Rosamond, Christian County, IL. Children born to Charles and Nancy were daughters Halla L. and Lovey Estella. Late in life Nancy and Charles retired to Pana, Christian, Illinois where in 1900 Nancy passed away at the age of 72.
