Ruth was born April 12, 1923, at Arlington, Nebraska to Nels and Emma (Thielfoldt) Svendgard.
She was a 1940 graduate of Arlington High School and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska for a year.
Ruth was united in marriage to Sterling H. Plugge Dec. 20, 1945 in Arlington. They were blessed with four children.
Ruth was employed by doctors Bloch and Bloch at Arlington for 17 years. She owned and operated Ruth's Beauty Shop in Arlington for 13 years and then worked for Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington for five years.
Ruth was a member of Arlington Community Church, United Church of Christ of Arlington; charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 8332 of Arlington; Arlington Village trustee for several years and was mayor of Arlington for two years. She had been inducted into the Arlington Education Hall of Fame in 2004. She was a Red Cross Volunteer at the Fremont Area Medical Center and a member of the Koffee Klatch in Arlington.
Ruth was very proactive in numerous community projects.
Ruth I. Plugge, 87, of Grand Island, formerly of Arlington, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at her daughter's home in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Ama Plugge of San Carlos, Mexico; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Arter of Lincoln, NE; Jill and Steve Hornady of Grand Island, NE; Jaclyn and Bill Helfrey of Ashville, Ohio; grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Jay S. and Kristin Plugge of Minneapolis, Caitlin Arter of Omaha, NE; Megan Arter and Joshua Arter, both of Lincoln, NE, and Taylor Musselman, Calla Helfrey, Emily Helfrey, and Amber Helfrey, all of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Greta and Carson Plugge of Minneapolis and a host of friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Frances Behrendt; and grandson, Nathan Plugge.
