Margaret Hiatt, 96, St. Joseph, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 19, 2010.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Truman; her parents, Thomas and Ada Daly; sisters, Stella, Sarah (Speaker), Catherine (Cravens), and Virginia (Heller); and daughter-in-law, Nancy Bridenstine.
Mrs. Hiatt was born in St. Joseph and lived here most of her life.
She married young to John Bridenstine, a student at the University of Iowa, and they had one child, David.
She married Truman Hiatt on November 22, 1947, a foundryman, and they had two children, Richard and Robert, before Mr. Hiatt's death on August 24, 1951.
Mrs. Hiatt retired from Methodist Hospital in St. Joseph and after retirement worked part-time at the St. Joseph Museum. She enjoyed traveling and being surrounded by her friends and family.
Mrs. Hiatt is survived by her sons, David, Richard and his wife, Susan, and Robert and his wife, Linda; eight grandchildren, George Bridenstine, Paul Bridenstine and Jody King, Nina and Mark Hill, James Hiatt, and Megan and Chase Elrod. Mrs. Hiatt is also survived by her beloved niece, Patricia Hornaday; and five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander and Aaron King, Destiny Hill and Beckett Elrod.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home. Interment: Mount Auburn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Parish rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial gifts to Second Harvest Food Bank, St. Joseph Museum, or a charity of the donor's choice.
