Francis S. Colley was one of the "commissioners" named in 1827 to raise funds to build a Masonic Hall in Monroe. He was a "senior warden" of the Grand lodge in 1854.
Also, according to "Some Georgia County Records", Vol. 4, p. 240 & 280, Francis S. Colley is listed as performing marriages in Greene County, GA in 1839, 1843, 1844, and 1847.
He was active politically in the 1850's serving as a delegate from Walton.
He was listed as a "justice of the peace" in 1848 and a "judge" in 1866.
He was awarded a medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1847 and received a degree from the Univ. of PA Medical College in 1857.
Francis S. Colley was the Surgeon for the 11th Georgia Infantry Regiment from 12 July 1861 until 31 Jan 1862.
In 1872 he was the Chairman of the Democratic Party in Walton Co.
