Feb. 9, 1922 — April 24, 2002

Van R. Roberts, 80, of Bloomington, died Wednesday, April 24th at Beverly Health Care. He was born February 9, 1922, in Chelsa, Oklahoma, the son of Charles and Goldie (Branam) Roberts.

He was a retired employee of Detroit Diesel Allison's of Indianapolis, a Navy veteran of World War II and an avid coon hunter. He was a member of the Coon Hunter's Hall of Fame. He attended Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty (Hamm) Roberts of Bloomington; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bennie Knight and Lana and Fred Tieman, both of Bloomington, and Becky and Mike Campbell of Ellettsville; one son, Richard "Dick" Roberts of Bloomington; one sister, Jean Malott of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Blanche Moore, Opal Perry, Ruby Lanham and Martha Henderson; and four brothers, William Roberts, Kenneth Roberts, Virgil Roberts and Ray Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Allen Funeral Home, with Rev. Dan Dix officiating.

Burial will be at Garrison Chapel Cemetery.

The Veterans Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites. Friends may call on Friday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
