MOCKSVILLE - Ralph Edward Call, 94 of Fairfield Road, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Davie County on June 7, 1916, he was the son of the late Taylor B. and Cora Phelps Call. He was a retired salesman for 50 years from J.P. Green Milling Company in Mocksville, NC and W.A Davis in Highpoint, NC. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, and Mocksville Masonic Lodge 134. Mr. Call served in the US Army, receiving a Ribbon with four Major Battle Stars, the Bronze Star for meritorious service, and The Purple Heart for wounds in action. He also was the oldest World War II veteran in Davie County. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Mayberry Call, of the home; three daughters, Barbara (Jerry) James of Anderson, SC, Janet (Floyd) Lewis of Mocksville, Sarah (Mike) Surratt of Salisbury, NC; one sister, Edna Janowski of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Graham, Oscar, Clarence, Charles and Jimmy Call, and a sister, Ruby Call McDaniel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. Burial with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Davie Funeral Service, with Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery or Maintenance Fund, 141 Liberty Circle, Mocksville, NC 27028. Davie Funeral Service is serving the family of Ralph Edward Call.
