Agnes Hentz Messing Detamore, 96, of 785 Cherry Ave., Waynesboro, died Saturday (Sept. 3, 2005) following an extended illness. Agnes was born July 15, 1909, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., to John and Katherine (Pryzybelski) Hentz. She married George V. Messing on June 15, 1939, in Wisconsin Rapids. He passed away on July 9, 1974. George and Agnes Messing owned and operated Messing Manufacturing Co. in Waynesboro from 1946 through 1972. Agnes taught piano lessons at her residence for many years. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 105, and served as Grand Organist for the commonwealth of Virginia. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Waynesboro. Agnes married Waddell Detamore on Sept. 21, 1984. Mr. Detamore passed away on January 17, 1987. Agnes was predeceased by one son, Daniel G. Messing, on July 17, 1966. She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Tony, John, Joseph and August Hentz; two sisters, Annie Jagodzinski and Helen Novack. Survivors include a brother, Ed Hentz of Bellingham, Wash.; and a sister, Marion and her husband, Martin Arnold, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; plus a number of nieces and nephews; daughter, Nancy Jane Tallman and son-in-law Herbert Tallman of Waynesboro; grandchildren Sara Marie and husband, Paul Seidler, Suffolk, Va, Jennifer May and husband Gregory Mullenax, Fishersville, Va, and Linnea Jane Spradlin, of Waynesboro; great-grandchildren Tiffany Bradley, Veronica Mullenax, Nicholas Spradlin and Sammy Jo Spradlin. Mention would also like to be made of special friend Helen Curto of Waynesboro. A celebration of Agnes' life will be conducted at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro on Thursday (Sept. 8, 2005) at 2 p.m. by Pastor David Washburn. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, following Eastern Star service at 6:30 p.m. The family wishes to thank the Valley Program for the Aging and the Assured Home Health Care for the care and services that they provided for Agnes. Special thanks and appreciation is also given to the Mary Martha Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church for their support and well wishes over the years.
