Funeral services were held Monday, September 7, at 4 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Austol Youmans officiating. Burial was in the Middleground Church Cemetery. Members of the Statesboro Midget Varsity Football Team served as active pallbearers and an honorary escort. Barnes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The body remained at the home, 213 Institute St., until the funeral hour.
Richard was active in the program carried out by the Statesboro Department of Recreation and was voted one of the most valuable players in 1958. He was a member of the R.A.'s of the Calvary Baptist Church and in the seventh grade at the Sallie Zetterower School.
He is survived by his parents, Mrs. Mary Dell Allen Bailey of Statesboro and Austin Bailey of Jesup. One brother, Randy Bailey of Statesboro; one half-sister, Suzanne Bailey of Jesup; two half-brothers, Alvin and Russell Bailey, both of Jesup; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lovin Allen of Statesboro; his paternal grandfather, R.M. (Bob) Bailey of Statesboro and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
