Born Aug. 31, 1906, in Dorcas, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Hannah (Wratchford) Thorne. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lee Vance, Aug. 21, 1961; one daughter, Delphia Mauzy; two sons, Edgar Vance and Willis Vance; one sister, Elizabeth Mauzy; seven brothers, Glenn Thorne, Earl Thorne, George Thorne, Lester Thorne, John Thorne, Van Thorne and Harvey Thorne; one grandson, Douglas Davis; and one great-granddaughter, Heather Mauzy. She was the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by one son, Ralph L. Vance Sr. and wife, Estelle, of Dorcas; one daughter-in-law, Louise Vance of Petersburg; one son-in-law, Raymond Mauzy of Dorcas; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were April 8, at the Brake Church of the Brethren. Interment was in the Brake Cemetery, Dorcas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vance family, c/o Schaeffer Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.
