Son of Clarence Howard Leonard and Anna Frances Neal.

While a ambitious young man, Arthur had a terrible immune system and was sickly throughout his youth. He missed the first half of high school, but finished in two years as salutatorian of his graduating class.

In making up for the years he missed, Arthur wrote for newspapers, collected phonograph records, learned to skate, performed in an acting troop and joined the Student Army Training program at Boston College.

However, while participating in the training, Arthur was subjected to the Influenza Epidemic of 1918. The disease killed him.
