Pearl was the daughter of William Jessie Witherspoon and Britanna (Youngblood) Witherspoon. Her mother, Britanna, died when Pearl was a very young child.
She grew up with her sister Minerva in the Rupert, Idaho area and attended Pioneer School. After Pearl married, her father Jesse Witherspoon, remarried. He and his wife Della has three additional children: Bertha, Laverne and Hilda.
Pearl married Burt James Van Every 30 Aug. 1916. They were the parents of six sons: Clinton Loy, Norvel Leslie, Leo Burt, William Judson, Ernest Lyle and Glen Darrel. Five of them served their country in the US Military. Norvel made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII.
A loving mother and grandmother, Pearl was also a Good Samaritan to all.
