William Martin married Matilda Moore in Kentucky. Their first five children were born in Kentucky. By 1850, the family had moved to Howard, Gentry County, Missouri. Four more children were born in Missouri. William and Matilda Martin's children were: Ludah W. (1835-); Mary (1836-1917); Susannah (1838-); Hannah (1840-); Lucy (1842-1929); William R. (1846-1890); James R, (1847-1910); Daniel M. (1850-1916).
By 1870, the family had headed a little further west to Buchanan County, Missouri. William was widowed before 1880. In 1879, he and his sons, James R. and William R. and his family were living in Scott Township, Linn County, Kansas. They were farming. They remained there until 1883-84 when the three plus William R's family moved to Mills County, Iowa.
