HANNIBAL - Thomas M. "Tommy" Brown, 84, of Hannibal and formerly of rural New London, died Sunday evening, Feb. 25, 2007, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will follow at Barkley Cemetery in New London. Emmette J. Shields Post 55, The American Legion, will provide military rites at the grave.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
Tommy was born May 23, 1922, in Mexico, a son of Marshall A. and Estella B. Butler Brown.
He never married.
Survivors include a brother, William H. Brown and his wife, Joan, of Payson, Ill.; four nephews, Marshall, Steve, Robert and Matt Brown; a niece, Audrie Bunte; eight great-nieces; six great-nephews; and seven great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Tommy attended New London High School with the class of 1942, and he was a member of the New London First Christian Church. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 24, 1942, and served in France and Germany during World War II. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action in Germany. He lived on the family farm in Ralls County all his life except for his military service and the past three years at West View Nursing Home in Center.
Casketbearers will be Stephen W. Brown, Robert A. Brown, Matthew W. Brown, Audrie A. Bunte, Melissa J. Brown, Allison L. Bunte, Jason A. Brown and Jane C. Brown.
Honorary casketbearers will be W. Marshall Brown, Jonathan A. Brown, Jered A. Brown, Connor N. Brown, Landon M. Brown, Jennifer A. Anderson, Joni A. Hazelrigg, Elizabeth A. Bunte, Mallory L. Brown, Melanie L. Brown, Lauren R. Brown and Lucas J. Bunte.
Memorials may be made to New London First Christian Church, in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
