OBITUARY – NELL WALDREP JETTON


Nell Waldrep Jetton, 102, of Murfreesboro, TN died Jan. 10, 2014.

Mrs. Jetton was born May 28, 1911 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, the oldest of eight children of the late Preston Marvin and Minnie Elders Waldrep. She attended Lander College and was a graduate of Mary Black School of Nursing. She married John W. "Jack" Jetton, III of Trenton TN and Trenton was her home until her later years when she moved to Murfreesboro to be near family.

Mrs. Jetton was co-founder of the Gibson County Council for Retarded Children and along with her husband helped to establish the first Special Education Class in Gibson County. For a time, she assisted in the Special Ed class in Trenton. She was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Trenton serving as pianist and organist for over 50 years, taught Sunday School, was involved in WMU both at local and county level for many years. She was a member of the Trenton Woman's Club, Music Club and the Home Demonstration Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jetton was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Jetton, siblings Eva DeShields, Sue Shepherd, Ora Williams, Preston Waldrep Jr., George Waldrep, and Don Waldrep and a granddaughter, Jennifer Taylor.

She is survived by her children, Frances Jetton Bland of Murfreesboro, Susan Jetton of Charlotte NC, Mary Ann Jetton Craft and John Jetton IV of San Antonio TX, a brother Hubert Waldrep of Enoree SC, Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She is survived by several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM at Shelton Funeral Home in Trenton, TN on Tuesday, January 14. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15 2014 in chapel of Shelton Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
