Bettye A. Hocker, 84, of Goshen, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at her home from natural causes.

She was born in Anderson, Indiana, on May 6, 1922, to Thomas Riley and Mary Esther (Mills) Achor.

A resident of the area since 1999, Ms. Hocker received her Masters degree from Ball State University. She had worked as a registered nurse at St. John's Hospital in Anderson and at the Manatee Health Department in Florida, in addition to teaching health and science at Northside Jr. High School in Anderson.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Richard) Leighton of Bonita Springs, Florida; a son, Thomas Pettit of Frankton, Indiana; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Hubert Achor of Dallas, Texas; and a sister, Cleda Anderson of Holmes Beach, Florida.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Achor and a sister, Eunice Williams.

A 2:00 p.m. memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in The Gathering Room at Evergreen at Greencroft. Rev. Royal Bauer will officiate.

A private burial will take place be in Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, at a later date.
