Rev. Cleda J. Anderson, 84 passed away peacefully, June 12, 2011 following unexpected complications from surgery. She was surrounded by her family. She was born on July 19, 1926 in Anderson, IN to Thomas and Mary Achor. She graduated from Anderson High School and attended Anderson College for three years completing her bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, later she obtained her masters degree from Ball State University. From 1948 to 1951, she was youth director at Park Place Church of God and was active 11 years in Christian Education. She began her work at Anderson College in 1967 as Dean of Women and in 1974, she was promoted to Dean of Students and later Vice President of Student Affairs which she held until retirement in 1988. Rev. Anderson was an ordained minister of the Church of God. She received an honorary doctorate of Humanities from Azusa Pacific University in 1988. Following retirement from Anderson University, she and her husband moved to Anna Marie Island, FL where she proceeded to work full time as a minister for Longboat Island Chapel for 11 years. She resided in Anna Marie Island until returning to Indiana in 2009 where she became a resident of Marquette Manor, choosing to be near family and loved ones. Cleda is survived by her three children, Rodney J. Anderson DO of Indianapolis; Rebecca J. Anderson DO of Indianapolis, Laurie B. Anderson MSW of Lebanon, IN; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Anderson of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Jared Matthew Anderson DO (wife Traci Anderson DO) of Fishers; Elizabeth Upton Esq. (husband Kevin) of Colorado and Abigail Bucher (husband Andrew) of Indianapolis; two great grandchildren Vaughn Matthew Anderson son of Jared and Traci, and Charlotte June Bucher daughter of Abigail and Andrew. Cleda was a well respected member of the Anderson University and Park Place Church of God communities and will be greatly missed. Cleda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Anderson in 2003, her parents, her two brothers and her two sisters. Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Park Place Church of God with Pastor Don Collins and Dr. David Coolidge officiating.
