John Daniels Sr. was born on December 10, 1751, in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut. His mother was from a prominent family in the area, many of whom served in the military throughout the 1700s. He served as a Private under his first cousin, Colonel Thomas Grosvenor during the Revolutionary War. Thomas Grosvenor was a friend of General George Washington and hosted him at the Ben Grosvenor Inn in 1789. John married Betsey Horton (1751-1832) and lived in Rutland, Vermont until 1831 when they moved to Birmingham, Michigan with their youngest children, Clarissa and Hiram.

The Daniels had eight children. The first child was Anna Daniels, b. July 13, 177- in Canaan New Hampshire, and died on August 14, 1827, in Brecksville, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Anna married Joel Norton (b. 1778 in Guilford, Connecticut) in Rutland, Vermont, on March 26, 1801, with whom she had four children: Roxane Norton, Fola Norton, Fanna Norton, and Hiram Norton. Joel Norton's parents were Benjamin and Azuba Norton of Guilford, CT.

The second child was Gad Daniels, b. in 1782 in Massachusetts. Gad married Rachel Loomis of Clarendon, Vermont on October 3, 1805. By 1820 Gad lived in Hannibal, Oswego, New York. He died in October of 1859 in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is buried alongside his wife in an unmarked grave in Caledonia Memorial Cemetery in Racine County, Wisconsin.

The third child was Fanna Daniels, b. between 1774-1784 (per the Vermont census of 1800). Fanna married Dr. John Gardner Mason of Fort Ann, New York on November 21, 1809, at West Rutland, Vermont. They had three children: Charles Mason, b. (1813), Betsy Ann Mason, and John Gardner Mason (b. 1818-1884). Their son, John Gardner Mason married Mary Eunice Mason with whom he had two children Celia Mason Garland and Emma A. Mason Cleave. He died on November 9, 1884, in Howell, Livingston, MI.

The fourth child was Samuel Daniels, b. May 8, 1790, in Rutland, Vermont. He married Roxana Birchard (1798-1818) on September 15, 1816, in Lima, New York. Roxanna died on January 25, 1819. His second marriage on May 12, 1819, was to Phila Birchard Daniels Willard (sister of Roxana). Phila was born June 19, 1796, in New York. She and Samuel had one child, Ezra Daniels, born June 1, 1820, in Livonia, Livingston County, New York, who died August 18, 1832, in the same place. Phila died on October 15, 1869, in Geneva, Ontario County, NY. Samuel died April 28, 1831, in Livonia, Livingston County, New York and he is buried at the Old Methodist Cemetery in Lima, Livingston County, New York along with Roxana, Phila, and Ezra.

The fifth child was Mary Daniels, b. September 13, 1792, in Rutland, Vermont. She married Pitts Phillips on September 3, 1818, at Sempronius, New York. Pitts was born April 24, 1792, in New York and is a veteran of the War of 1812 serving as a private under Captain Elijah Clarke and Regiment: Colonel Peter Allen Detached. Mary and Pitts moved to Southfield, Michigan in 1830 where Pitts was a representative from Oakland County in 1837. He became a supervisor in 1836 and held the office of justice in New York and Michigan. Pitts was a farmer and cooper, in politics first a Whig, then an Abolitionist. He died on April 10, 1842, and he is buried next to his wife, Mary who died August 22, 1870, in Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan.
The sixth child was John Daniels, Jr. 1793-1855. John Jr was born on July 7, 1793, in Rutland, VT, and died on September 7, 1855, in Franklin, MI. He was married in 1824 in Livonia, NY to Julia Clark. Julia is buried at Franklin Cemetery with her husband, John. John and Julia had eight children: Lycurgus L. Daniels, b. 1836-1921 and is buried in Franklin Cemetery. Ezra B. Daniels, b. 1834-Aug 21, 1856, and is buried in Franklin Cemetery. Edwin E. Daniels, b. Aug 8, 1846- April 13, 1847, and is buried in Franklin Cemetery. John Clark Daniels, b. Feb 23, 1833, in Oakland Co, MI, d. Oct 29, 1883, in Southfield, Oakland County. John married Arabella Adelia Adams in Wayne County on July 7, 1870. He is buried in Franklin Cemetery.

The seventh child was Clarissa H. Daniels Wilcox, b. about 1798 (between 1790 and 1800) according to the Vermont census of 1800) and she died on April 8, 1866. She is interred in a fenced plot with her husband and his first wife in Rochester, MI. at Mount Avon Cemetery. She married Edwin T. Wilcox of Rochester, Oakland County, MI as his second wife. Edwin's first wife was Amanda Wilcox (1798-Nov 26, 1833) and she is buried at Mount Avon Cemetery in Rochester, MI. Edwin was born November 5, 1799, in Ontario County, NY, and died on August 9, 1881, in Rochester, MI.

The eighth child was Hiram Daniels, b. January 24, 1801, in Rutland, VT, and he married Rhoda Bingham of Cornwall, VT on September 14, 1836, in Flint, MI. Hiram and Rhoda are buried at Greenwood Cemetery. Hiram died on January 28, 1889. Rhoda S. Bingham Daniels was born May 27, 1816, and died March 5, 1862. Her parents were James Bingham (1772-1827) and Rhoda Sperry Bingham (1776-1817). Hiram and Rhoda had eight children: John Franklin Daniels, b. unknown-1844. Louisa Daniels, b. 1839-1839. George T. H.
