Beaumont Flier Killed in Crash
The War department Tuesday notified relatives of 2nd Lt. Karl Keith Howell, 21, of Beaumont, of the flier's death in an airplane accident over his base at Greenville, S.C. No details of the crash were divulged. Lt. Howell enlisted in the Army three years ago and later was transferred to the air corps base at Ellington field, Texas, where he received his wings last year. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Winnie Howell; a sister, Marie, and a brother, J.C., all of Baton Rouge, La; three brothers, Avery Howell, Corvin Howell and Conrad Howell and one sister, Mrs. D.R. Carlin, all of Beaumont. The body will be sent to Lake Charles, La. for burial. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
